Whether you’ve got a sewing room to work on projects, a music studio for all your musical instruments and gear, or an art studio where you let your creative juices flow, Southern Louisianans truly love their hobbies and crafts!

The problem is that the high humidity we get in our summer plus the temperature swings that we get in our winter can make your most prized possessions go haywire.
Many objects are hyper sensitive to humidity, such as fabric which can mold, musical instruments (especially those made of wood) which can expand with heat or crack and go out of tune, or many art supplies that can also be affected by high humidity levels.
So how are you supposed to keep your “Man Cave” or “Lady Lair” properly climatized when here in Southern Louisiana we have so many fluctuations in our weather?
The solution that we provide to hobbyists and enthusiasts of all kinds is a ductless mini-split. These are fairly newer heating and cooling systems on the market here in the US, but the rest of the world has been using them for years.
What is a Mini-Split Heat Pump?
A ductless mini-split is a heating and cooling device that affects just one room, which is why they’re so perfect for hobby rooms.
Mini-split heat pumps are ductless systems that are good for add-ons to houses, freestanding rooms and garages when you need to control the temperature of that one specific space.
Just like your standard air-source heat pump, mini-split heat pumps have an outdoor compressor/condenser as well as an indoor air-handling unit. Mini-split heat pumps work by in the following way:
- When you’re cold and you want it to be warmer in your hobby room, mini-split heat pumps take the warmth out of the air that’s outside and push it inside, thus heating up the interior air.
- When you’re hot and sweaty and you want to cool off, the system reverses, pushing the hot air in your space outside to keep you calm, cool and collected.
If you have one room in your home that needs to have a climate controlled temperature, then a mini-split heat pump is the right solution for you! And here at Berner AC & Heat, we’re well experienced with installing these systems, and knowing when they’re needed in the first place.
If you have any questions about mini-split systems, we’d love to hear from you!
